Since April 1, the Buxton Inn has been undergoing an incredible transformation. From the copper gutters and copper roof, to the stonework and landscaping surrounding the property, every improvement has been made with one goal in mind: preparing this beloved Granville landmark for its next chapter while honoring the history that makes it so special.
On Wednesday, September 23, we’ll celebrate that new chapter with the Buxton Inn’s Grand Reawakening - an unforgettable evening featuring Governor Mike DeWine, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, food, drinks and a first look at many of the Inn’s beautifully refreshed spaces.
This is a limited-capacity, ticket-only event. Tickets are selling quickly, and advance purchase is required. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Granville Historical Society and the amazing work it does to preserve and share our community’s history.

A Look at the Transformation Since April 1
The work taking place throughout the Buxton Inn has touched nearly every part of the property. Some changes are immediately noticeable, while others reflect the careful craftsmanship required to preserve a historic inn.
Spring: Exterior Improvements Begin
The transformation began in the spring with new exterior lighting, painting, stonework and extensive landscaping throughout the property.
These early improvements started bringing new life to the grounds while preserving the welcoming character of the historic Buxton Inn.
Summer: Refreshing the Guest Experience
Inside, guest rooms and gathering spaces began receiving new paint, wallpaper, lighting, furnishings, and luxury mattresses. Each update was chosen to make the Inn feel refreshed and comfortable without losing the warmth and personality that have welcomed generations of guests.
Additional exterior improvements continued throughout the summer, including the installation of new gutters and careful attention to the Inn’s architectural details.
In July, fountain repairs and tiling, major roofing work and the installation of the Inn’s beautiful new copper gutters were completed. These improvements help protect the historic buildings while complementing the timeless character of the property.
Repairs to the Buxton Inn’s main courtyard fountain began in August. The fountain has long been a familiar and much-loved feature of the property, making its restoration an important part of bringing the courtyard back to life.
Stonework, courtyard improvements and landscaping also continued, connecting the Inn’s buildings, gardens and outdoor gathering spaces.
The Tavern is receiving a new entrance, along with updated lighting, furnishings and carefully selected finishes. The Garden Room is also being refreshed, with improvements to its entrance and interior presentation.
Fresh paint, new wallpaper, reupholstered seating and custom wood tabletops are bringing new life to these familiar rooms while preserving their historic atmosphere.
Fall/Winter: Reimagining Familiar Spaces
Work continues throughout the restaurant, reception areas, 1812 Lounge, Tavern and Garden Room. Stay-tuned for restaurant updates!
The goal has never been to make the Buxton Inn feel new. It has been to help this historic property feel beautifully alive again.
The Grand Reawakening
The celebration begins on September 23 at the Buxton Inn, located at 313 East Broadway in Granville.
Registration opens at 3:30 p.m., followed by the opening reception at 4:30 p.m. Governor Mike DeWine is expected to arrive between approximately 4:45 and 5 p.m. Formal remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow before guests are welcomed into the courtyard and Main Inn.
Throughout the evening, guests will be able to experience the restored property while enjoying food, drinks, live music and the company of others who share a love for the Buxton Inn and Granville’s history.
Celebrating the Past - and Preserving It for the Future
This event is about more than unveiling renovations. It is a celebration of preservation and community.
Most importantly, 100% of the event proceeds will benefit the Granville Historical Society. Its amazing work helps preserve local artifacts, stories and historic places so Granville’s history can continue to be shared with future generations.
