Lodging at the Buxton Inn

History
In 1972 Orville Orr was writing drug education programs for the State of Ohio, having been a principal in the education field for many years. Audrey Orr was a part time kindergarten teacher and full time mother of two daughters, Melanie and Amy. At the urging of Robbins Hunter, a Granville Preservationist, the Orrs approached Miss Nell Schoeller about he possibility of buying the Buxton Inn. Miss Schoeller was impressed with their plans for restoration of Ohio's oldest continuously operated inn in its original building - 1812 and agreed to sell.
After a two year period of restoration, the restaurant of the Buxton Inn opened on Friday the 13th of September, 1974. On Denison Parents' Weekend in October of 1974, five guest rooms were opened in the Inn. Through the years, a gift shop and offices occupied some of the guest room spaces. Today, the main building has four guest rooms.

In 1975, the Orrs purchased the Ty Fy Main House at 118 S. Pearl and it served as their residence until 1977. "Ty Fy Main" is the Welsh name given to the house by its builder in 1900 and means "My Mother's House". It is a Sears Catalog house, very popular around the turn of the century. After extensive restoration, it was opened in February of 1992 with two guest rooms and two guest suites.

In 1980 the Warner House at 303 E. Broadway was purchased by the Orrs from the Robbins Hunter Estate and restoration was begun in the brick portion. The Warner House, built in 1815, was originally used as both a retail store and overnight guest rooms. In 1983, restoration was complete and five more guest rooms were then added to the Buxton Inn Complex.

The Victorian House at 108 S. Pearl Street was then gutted, and yet another restoration project was under way. The Victorian House, built around 1880, was at one time used as overnight guest rooms and then later as boarding rooms for students at the Granville Female Academy. In 1986 the Victorian House opened, adding five more rooms to the Buxton Inn Complex.

In 1989 the Buxton Inn purchased the adjoining house at 307 E. Broadway, now proudly named Founders' Hall after six of Granville's Founding Fathers; Orrin Granger, Timothy Rose, Samuel Everett, Job Case, Augustine Munson, and Samuel Thrall. Built around 1850, this house was at one point used as overnight guest rooms and then later used as boarding rooms for students at the Granville Female Academy. Founders' Hall opened in September 1994, with six guest rooms, bringing the total number of guest rooms in the Complex to twenty-five.

Two-story porches, formal gardens and beautiful fountains provide a relaxed setting for overnight guests, small business meetings, and local friends and neighbors who are encouraged to stop by and step back in history for a moment.
Today, The Buxton Inn offers dining and meeting rooms ranging in sized form twelve person to sixty person capacity. Lunch, Dinner and Sunday Brunch are offered year round in our dining rooms, offering fine American/French cuisine to suit any taste. Our Tavern is also open Tuesday through Saturday evenings offering a lighter fare.
